Best POS system in Egypt: 10 questions
· 6 min read · The CARMA HUB team
Every shop owner asks it at some point: what is the best POS system in Egypt? The honest answer is that no single system is best for every shop. A clothing shop needs sizes and colours, a perfume shop sells by volume, and a supermarket needs fast barcode scanning. The best one for you is the system that answers «yes» to the questions that matter to your shop.
Here are 10 practical questions. Ask them of any system before you pay, and ask to see each answer yourself in a real trial, not a slide deck.
1. Does every sale take stock off automatically?
A cashier program that does not link sales to stock is just a calculator. Every invoice should reduce the quantity at once, every supplier delivery should add to it, and you should see the current balance of every item in every branch. Also ask: can I see why a balance changed? A number typed by hand doesn't tell its story. More in why your stock should be a movement record.
2. Does it show real profit, not just sales?
Sales look nice; profit is what matters. Ask how the system costs the goods you sold. The common, accurate method is weighted average cost: each purchase at a new price updates the item's average cost, so every sale's profit uses a real cost. Check that returns are taken off profit the same way in every report.
3. How does it track the cash in the drawer?
The biggest gap in most shops is an open drawer with nobody responsible for it. Ask about shifts: does the cashier open a shift with an opening float? Is the drawer counted at close, showing any shortage or overage? Does a manager receive and confirm the cash? Details in treasury and register shifts.
4. Does it handle credit sales and customer accounts?
In Egypt, selling on credit is part of daily business. The right system records the debt on the customer's account, sets a credit limit, records collections and prints a statement. If it can't, you'll be back to a paper notebook.
5. Does it work with barcodes and print labels?
Ask: can I scan with a normal USB scanner or a phone camera? Can it print barcode labels in the size I already have (such as 38×25 or 40×30 mm)? Items without a factory barcode need a label from the system itself.
6. What does it print?
Check the thermal receipt printer you own (58 or 80 mm) and an A4 invoice for customers who ask for one. Ask to see the Arabic receipt before you buy.
7. Are permissions real?
A cashier shouldn't see your profit or change prices without approval. Ask: are permissions enforced on the server, or are buttons just hidden? The difference is explained in real permissions for every employee.
8. Will it grow with you to more branches?
Even with one branch today, ask: can I add a branch or a warehouse later? Can I transfer stock between branches and track what's in transit? Do reports show each branch and all of them together?
9. Is it in Arabic and EGP, and where is your data kept?
A full Arabic interface, prices in Egyptian pounds and an Arabic receipt are the basics. Ask about data too: is it on one computer in the shop, or online with backups? A system that runs in the browser opens on a computer, tablet or phone, but it needs an internet connection while you sell, so ask about that clearly.
10. What does it cost, and can I try it before paying?
Compare the monthly price with what you actually get, and be careful with free offers that don't say who pays for support and updates. Most important: try the system with your real items before you pay.
Where CARMA HUB stands on these questions
We built CARMA HUB to answer «yes» to these questions for retail shops in Egypt:
- A point of sale linked to stock, where every balance is the result of recorded movements, with weighted average cost per branch.
- Shifts with a drawer count that shows shortage and overage, and a manager who receives the cash.
- Credit sales with a limit per customer, collections, statements and loyalty points.
- Barcode scanning with a USB scanner or the camera, and label printing in ready sizes or your own size.
- 58 or 80 mm thermal receipts and A4 invoices, per-employee permissions enforced on the server, and more than one branch and warehouse.
It runs in the browser in Arabic and English, in EGP, and needs an internet connection while you sell. See all features, check the pricing, and try it free for 7 days with no card.
